Landhi Town is an industrial municipality in south of Karachi, It is bordered by the Bonair Colony which was occupied by Afghan refugees and number of refusals are still there. In view of the absence of all basic amenities including availability of clean water, the area was selected to install a water filtration plant.
Addressing the dire need of availability of safe and clean water Solar Water Filtration Plant under Global Grant GG2117155 with the assistance of IPDG Dr. Farhan Essa RC Karachi Kolachi (RID 3271),Nancy Barbee RC Maysville (RID 7730), Ellen Deaton RC Maysville (RID 7730) and Laura Hagerman RC Maysville (RID 7730) has been installed at Muzzaffar Colony, Landhi town, Karachi.
District Governor Dr. Aftab Imam, Trustee / National Chair PNPPC Aziz Memon and IPDG Dr. Farhan Essa jointly inaugurated the filtration plant on 16th October 2021.
The event was attended by PDG Saleem Rao, DGE Tahzeeb Kazmi, Dr. Ahmed Ali Shaikh Focal Person EOC Sindh, Dr. Abdul Basit- ERU, Dr.Shaukat- Team Lead UNICEF, Bilal Khalid- UNICEF, PP Muneeb Khan, PP Tahira Khan, PP Darshan Lal, Rtn. Jilani Yousuf, Rtr. Shaheer Ali,Tazmeen Zahra and Asher Ali from PNPPC.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Ahmed Ali Shaikh EOC Sindh briefed about the poor population of the area and functionality of the Team Support Center in the Super High Risk Area of Muzaffarabad Landhi.
Asher Ali shared the details on the selection criteria. He said the site was selected in consultation with the teams of EOC Sindh to provide maximum credibility of polio partners in the area and gain more confidence of pashtun communities living in surroundings.
Dr. Shaukat Team Lead UNICEF expressed people's concerns from the local community who have been approached for Polio vaccination. They have reservations on not providing safe and clean water and they have a reluctant approach for polio vaccine. He said people are really suffering as their basic need for availability of drinking water is not being addressed.
In concluding remarks Trustee TRF/National Chair Aziz Memon stressed community leader Ayub Khan to provide full cooperation to polio workers and ensure that each child gets polio vaccine every time to make Polio free Pakistan. He also said that this plant is a gift for the communities of Muzaffarabad colony and now they are responsible to take care of the water plant. The Team Support Center was also visited by the Rotary team and they checked the cold chain and stock.
DG Dr.Aftab Imam pushed the button of the filtration plant at the site and put it in operation.
After the inauguration, a symbolic key of the plant was jointly presented by the Trustee/National Chair Aziz Memon, DG Dr. Aftab Imam and IPDG Farhan Essa to the community focal person Ayub Khan to hold him responsible for all operations of the plant.
Community leader Ayub Khan thanked Rotary for their generosity and pledged that the community will take good care of the plant
At the end prayers were offered for the betterment of the project.
