Nankana Sahib is a District in Punjab famous for being a historical and religious place for the Sikh community. An old “Gurdwara” (religious place of worship for Sikhs) has Sikh and Christian population living in the surrounding district. PNPPC selected this district to hold an Religious Scholar Workshop for non-Muslim communities.
Rotary Club Faisalabad Junoobi was instrumental in arranging the workshop in collaboration with religious leaders of Sikh, Christian and Muslim communities and the District Government. The workshop highlighted the “Role of Religious Scholars in Polio eradication & Covid-19 pandemic” in Nankana Sahib. The Pakistan National Polio Plus Committee facilitated the workshop.
The workshop was held on 11th September 2021 at Darbar Hall in the Deputy Commissioner's Office in Nankana Sahib. The workshop focused on involving all religious groups in polio eradication. It was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Nankana Sahib Abdul Majid and attended by Trustee/National Chair Aziz Memon, Dr. Shahzad Baig Chief NEOC Islamabad, DG Saifullah Ejaz (3272), PDG Dr. Mansoor ul Haq, Dr. Sohail PEO WHO, UNICEF representative,18 Rotarians of Rotary Clubs of Faisalabad, 13 Sikhs religious scholars, 8 Christians pastures and 15 Muslim Ulemas of the district.
The Sikh Community leader Gopal Singh Chawla thanked Rotary and the District Government for holding such a workshop for the first time in Nankana Sahib. He said, ''our community will fully support polio workers and we also want to eliminate polio from our country.''
PAG M. Bashir Heral quoted a verse from the holy Quran related to health issues and responsibility of overall society. He said ''we are all one, when fighting against this crippling disease.''
PP Imran Munir highlighted the role of responsible parenthood in polio eradication.
Dr. Shahzad Baig, Chief NEOC appreciated the support of all religions scholars in the polio program and said ''now we are at the end point to make Pakistan a polio free country.''
District Governor Saifullah Ejaz appreciated the role of the District Government in involving scholars from different religious groups in polio eradication.
Trustee Aziz Memon thanked Ulemas from all religious sects who participated actively in the polio workshop. He showed booklets on Fatwas and Islamabad Declaration and said all scholars from different sects agreed to administer polio drops and assured their communities that ''vaccination will not harm their children.''
Abdul Majeed Additional Commissioner thanked all dignitaries and assured that they will put all efforts to cover each and every child in the district. He also requested Rotary to provide caps for more credibility of polio workers.
At the end PAG Dr. Naveed Zaib from Rotary Club of Faisalabad Junoobi said a vote of thanks to all participants.
After the workshop, on the request of Gopal Chawla, Sikh Community leader, the Rotary delegation visited the Sikh Gurdwara in Nankana Sahib.
